A big thank you to all that came down to Atlantic City and made our inaugural Global Fund Forum an incredible success. It was an intense three days with back to back meetings, networking lunches and late nights. We were all thankful for the Borgata’s oxygen rich air!
A welcome reception and casino themed charity party to raise money for 100 Women in Hedge Funds and Portfolios With Purpose. The event space was beautiful, the auction items did not disappoint, the food was top notch, and the networking was almost immediately in full gear. It was a lovely evening and a perfect way to start the conference.
Mark Jeffries, an economist and former stockbroker, presented a practical, invaluable, and entertaining keynote address focusing on effective communication, how to influence others, and the golden rules of networking.
A fireside chat with Larry Powell and Reuters’ Rhonda Schaffler. Larry, who was recently the Deputy CIO of the Utah Retirement Systems and Rhonda had a fascinating discussion on transparency, fraud, and how best to pick managers. At the end of the chat, Larry announced that he was looking to run a family office himself. Stay tuned…
Hedge Connection hosted a packed dinner at Mixx Nightclub, where everyone enjoyed delicious food, great music, and a mind blowing magician. After dinner, we all headed over to Cigars Under The Stars. We watched hockey and puffed stogies between the fronds on the outdoor pool deck.
A truly engaging conversation between Denise Shull, a neuroeconomist, author, and expert in human motivation, and one of the forum’s participants, Thomas Zucosky from Discovery Capital. They discussed the effect of emotion on high-pressure decision making and techniques for overcoming and leveraging these emotions to improve trading.
The feedback from managers and investors has been remarkable regarding the productivity of the manager-investor meetings and the Global Fund Forum in general.
Stephane Azra, from Glazer Capital Management summed it up this way, “I have been to many conferences and this was one of the best. It was very well attended, well organized, and efficiently run. For an inaugural conference, this was an excellent and worthwhile investor-manager summit.”
